The Next Fat Ass and The Bastard PF

A bit of a delay writing up my Saturday run. I'll keep it short. Incredible weather.

Part 1

time: 1:39:22
distance: 10.11 miles
pace: 9:50

weather: mid 40's, gloriously sunny and warm

conditions: firm packed snow on the way out, much softer on the way back

gear: Inov-8 Roclite 295, wools socks, 2x shorts, t-shirt, long sleeve top (removed), gloves, hat, Nathan HPL 20

Immediately following that run I reset my watch and went out for a loop of the upcoming I've Been Married For 10 Years And My Wife Still Doesn't Have A Fat Ass 50K. Conditions here were even worse as far as sinking in the deep snow, but hopefully over the next few weeks people (including myself) will be out in snowshoes packing things down.

ELEVATION PROFILE

Part 2

time: 46:07
distance: 4.0 miles
pace: 11:39

weather: mid 40's, gloriously sunny and warm

conditions: very soft snow, much postholing, some ice

gear: Inov-8 Roclite 295, wools socks, 2x shorts, t-shirt, hat, Nathan HPL 20

Although I felt great for the entire run afterwards I became certain that I have a case of plantar fascitis. Jamie gave me some good advice during the run so I plan to take a week off from running, use the foam roller, stretch, ice, and massage my feet. Hopefully that will do the trick and I'll be back at it again next weekend.

You may want to stop wearing the Inov8s until your PF subsides. They just don't have enough arch support. I had to give up mine and stick with the Cascadias. That, and Sole Dean Karnazes inserts are keeping me running relativley pain free, although my PF never went away. If you do get the Sole inserts, don't heat them and mold them to fit your feet. That defeats the purpose in my opinon. Why mold something to fit a flawed arch? Wear them out of the box as is. The arch is higher and firmer than any other running insert and should provide more support to your PF.

Here is the site for the inserts but you can buy them at REI. If they don't work out, you can return them. I love REI!!

Erin & I went snowshoeing out on the mountain the next morning and didn't need snowshoes; it was packed down solid. Must have been a lot of people out on Saturday.

That Jim's a crazy man. Tell us more about the Vermont 12 option.
I've been eating a lot of apples because I saw an advert for FRS but I'm too mean to buy it.
